The Family Birth Center Registered Nurse assists families throughout the birth process as well as provides direct care for patients ranging from neonates to older adults.
Responsibilities include assisting, supporting, and educating patients and their family members about the process of their illness, the treatment plan, and the discharge plan.
The position will care for women both during normal and problematic pregnancies, providing guidance and hands-on clinical care.
This position adheres to physician orders and properly documents patients' records, also being a valuable resource for the whole family during the period following the birth.
This position maintains patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESLabor and Delivery CareAssists with inducing labor and various procedures, including Cesarean sectionsIdentifies and assists with complications.
Provides support and coaching for the mother during labor and delivery.
Monitors the fetal heart rate, and mother's vital signs.
Measures the strength and timing of contractions.
Administers medications and performs diagnostic tests.
Monitors and performs tests on newborns.
General Direct Patient CareProvides direct care to patient assignment in the medical surgical unit and obstetrics.
Performs admissions, discharges, and transfers using a current and consistent handover process by assisting others with patient activities and care.
Reviews and appropriately implements physician's orders for all assigned patients.
Safely and properly administers medications and treatments.
Notifies appropriate nursing and medical staff of changes in the patient's status.
Performs or assists others in performing proper aseptic techniques, isolation procedures, and infection control measures.
Maintains patient's privacy and confidentiality at all times.
Cares for patients in the optimum clinical environment.
Adheres to all nursing and hospital-wide policies and procedures.
Participates in all hospital and nursing communication.
Maintains effective interdisciplinary communication.
Consults with physicians and other members of the care team.
Participates in and supervises patient's meals and special dietary requirements.
Effectively listens to and resolves concerns/complaints and escalates up the chain of command as needed.
Monitors all risk management processes.
Floats to other departments as driven by patient need, including areas such as ED, and Perioperative Services.
Patient DocumentationBuilds patient-specific plan of care.
Maintains appropriate documentation in all assigned patient records.
Evaluate and reassess care given, and update patient-specific plan of care to achieve desired outcomes.
Review documentation of instructions, teaching topics, and patient responses with the Nurse Manager or designee.
Patient EducationUtilizes all practical opportunities to educate the patient and their families.
Involves patient's families and significant others as an essential piece of patient-centered care.
Assesses patient's understanding of and compliance with instructions and health care teaching.
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
Acute Care experience preferred.
Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registration:
WA State Registered Nurse License is requiredAmerican Heart Association BLS/BCLS and NRP are requiredACLS is requiredPALS, TNCC, and AWHONN are desiredEMR System:
knowledge/experience desiredShift:
12 hours Night Shifts (1845 to 0715); Also needs to be able to help out on the Med Surg Unit.
